Die große Pilgerfahrt des Jahres ist wieder vorbei und damit meine ich nicht den Hadsch, sondern die Gamescom 2017 in Köln. In diesem Recap möchte ich euch ein wenig über die Messe dieses Jahr erzählen. Was neu dieses Jahr war, welche Erfahrungen ich gemacht habe und welche Erwartungen ich an die Messe von 2018 habe.
Der Anfang vor der Messe
Ich freue mich immer wieder auf die Gamescom. Es sind nicht nur die Spiele, die einen locken, sondern es ist das Gefühl. Das Gefühl der Einigkeit ist es, was mich zumindest jedes Jahr immer wieder begeistert. Denn es kommen Spieler, Entwickler und Publisher aus aller Welt, um an diesem Spektakel teilnehmen zu können.
Doch bevor dies überhaupt Anfing, traf ich mich mit meinen Kollegen aus Köln und wir Verabredeten uns noch vor der Messe. Wir gingen ins Meltdown, wo Niederländische Entwickler uns einige kleine Spiele präsentierten, natürlich „Made in the Netherlands“. Dutch Courage 3 – Cologne nannte sich diese Kuriosität und hatte durchaus einige Highlights hervor zuweisen. Da gab es zum Beispiel das Spiel „Lekker“, was ein Spaßiges Partyspiel für Kinder sein könnte. Denn Lekker ist eine App für Tablets, wo mehrere Tablets in der Wohnung oder im Haus versteckt werden und ihr müsst dann um euer Leben rennen, weil ihr kleine Monster füttern müsst. Doch manchmal wechselt das Monster einfach das Tablet und ihr müsst euch schnell auf die Suche begeben, um das Monster zu finden und es weiter zu füttern.
Ein weiteres Highlight war Bolt Storm, wo ihr als kleiner Ritter Gold farmen könnt, um dadurch euch Soldaten zu kaufen. Der Fokus dieses Spiels allerdings ist, dass die Armee immer weiter und weiter vergrößert wird, bis es später dann zu einer kleinen Schlacht kommt. Man stelle sich vor ein Total War, was eine Masse an Soldaten hat, trifft auf die Schwierigkeit eines Dark Souls und in etwa so fühlte sich Bolt Storm auch an.
Nach einigen Getränken und Fotos beendeten wir dann auch diesen tollen Abend, um auf dem nächsten großen Event präsent zu sein. Es handelt sich hierbei um die Age of Empires Party, wo wir dann nicht nur die Definitive Edition des neuen Age of Empires 1 Spielen durften, sondern wir durften uns auch an der Ankündigung des neuen Age of Empires 4 ergötzen, was ein awesome Moment für alle im Saal war.
Es beginnt
Dann begann es endlich. Schnell angezogen, Bahn genommen und bei der Messe sind wir wieder ausgestiegen. Die kühle Brise, die an diesem frühen Dienstagmorgen mir entgegen kam, ließ es mich wissen: „Es ist wieder GAMESCOM“. Mit Philippe an meiner Seite begaben wir uns auf die Suche von unseren Kollegen aus Gamerz.one. Als wir Marco und Lisa fanden, feierten wir kurz unsere Wiedervereinigung und stürmten direkt auf die Messe zu. Im Fachbesucher Bereich versuchten wir mit allen Mitteln Termine oder Fast Pässe zu bekommen. Ich war überrascht, da es meine erste Gamescom, als Presse war, wie schnell wir an diesem Tag waren. Kaum waren wir bei Ubisoft, rannten wir direkt weiter zu Activision und danach wieder zu THQ Nordic usw. Bis wir irgendwann alles abgeklappert hatten und Lisa zu ihrem Termin musste.
Sie fragte mich, ob ich Lust dazu hätte, da es ein kleineres Spiel aus Kanada sei und dieses Jahr Kanada Partner Land der Gamescom war. Wiedermals überrascht bejahte ich ihre Frage und lief ihr hinterher. Mein Puls stieg immer weiter ins Unermessliche, steht doch ein Termin im Fachbesucher Bereich für Seriosität und Professionalität. Doch nun komme ich kleiner 20 jährige Bub aus dem Südhessischen Darmstadt und habe bis dahin noch nie ein Interview geführt. Hinzu kommt noch, dass mein Selbstvertrauen in Englisch kaum Existent war, obwohl ich Englisch sprechen kann, fürchtete ich mich davor, ob es denn überhaupt gut genug sei für einen Termin bei der Gamescom.
Ich setzte mein „Coolface“ auf und versuchte meine Nervosität zu unterdrücken, schließlich hatte ich auch das Abitur überstanden, da sollte dies doch ein Klacks sein. Als wir dann an der Rezeption waren und Lisa Bescheid gab, dass sie nun da sei, kam auch schon direkt unser Mann. Er hieß David Dion-Paquet und ist Technical Director bei Bioshopgames. Und mal wieder wurde ich überrascht, denn David führte uns zu einer bequemen Sitzecke, wo wir alle uns hinsetzten und über sein neues Spiel „Light Fall“ sprachen. Lisa fragte mich, ob ich was zum Schreiben hätte, doch mir fiel sogar was noch besseres ein. Ich packte meine kleine SmartLav+ aus, schloss sie mit meinem Handy an und schon hatte ich ein perfektes Aufnahmegerät. Ab diesem Moment fühlte ich mich nun nicht mehr so nutzlos.
Verblüffend fand ich, dass David mit uns etwas Smalltalk führte, bevor wir dann über das Spiel ein wenig nachfragten. Ironischerweise erzählte uns David dabei, dass dies nun auch sein erstes Interview wäre und wir die ersten Journalisten überhaupt seien, die das Spiel nun zu Gesicht bekommen würden. Nachdem wir etwas gequatscht hatten durften wir, das Spiel dann auch schlussendlich mal anspielen. So waren wir beide vom düsteren, aber dennoch schönen Style des Spiels begeistert. Denn Light Fall ist zwar ein 2D Jump ‘n Run, aber es ist eins, was durch seine wunderschöne Optik brilliert. Es erinnert stark an Limbo, ist aber Gameplay Technisch nicht so limitiert. Beispielsweise könnt ihr euch Blöcke herbeizaubern lassen, wodurch ihr an höheren Hindernissen und Passagen vorbei könnt. Doch seid vorsichtig, ihr könnt den Block nur vier Mal herbei rufen, dann müsst ihr einmal den Boden berühren bis ihr dann wieder vier Blöcke herbeirufen dürft.
Als wir dann fertig waren mit dem Anspielen, bedankten wir uns herzlichst bei David und verabschiedeten uns. Ich fühlte mich wie Neugeboren! Alle Befürchtungen waren unbegründet, selbst Lisa meinte ich hätte mir zu viele Gedanken gemacht. Seitdem fühlte ich mich bereit auf das was noch kommen würde.
Die Messe unter der Woche
So kurz der Fachbesucher Tag auch war, so schnell platzten auch viele Illusionen in meinem Kopf. Zum einen verlor ich die Illusion, dass meine Interview Partner spießige Anzugträger sein würden, zum anderen verlor ich aber auch die Illusion, dass der Fachbesucher Tag ruhig sein würde. Selbst Freitag vor der Gamescom wurden abermals hunderte an Wildcards verkauft. In den normalen Hallen bildeten sich stundenlange Schlangen an den Spieleständen. Ich war verblüfft, wie viele „Fachbesucher“ dort waren. Sogar die Giveaways wurden schon in die Massen rausgeworfen. Viele meiner Kollegen meinten, dies sei ein Skandal und man könne somit die Messe auch gleich öffnen für normale Besucher.
Wenn wir schon beim Thema normal Besucher sind, ab Mittwoch war dann wieder die Hölle los in den Hallen. Selbst als wir eine Stunde vor Öffnung der Messe dort waren, bildeten sich Kilometer lange Schlangen an Star Wars Battlefront 2 oder an Far Cry 5. Es handelte sich hierbei um die Pre Entery Tickets, die die Leute kaufen konnten, allerdings zum 5-fachen Preis des normalen Tickets. Ebenso normal waren für mich die Preise: 9 Euro für Burger, 7,50 für eine Currywurst mit Pommes und 4 Euro für Getränke.
Allerdings fiel uns am Freitag etwas auf. Es wirkte offener, als wir durch die Hallen gingen. Man erinnere sich an die Bilder, wie Massen an Menschen zu einem einzigen Fleischklops werden und sich nur langsam weiter bewegen, wie Zombies. Dies hatte einen speziellen Grund. Zwar sind die Besucher Zahlen auf 355.000 angestiegen, allerdings wurde die Messe auf 201.000 m² erweitert (zum Vergleich: 2016 waren es noch 193.000 m², 2009 sogar nur 120.000 m²).
Wer es aber ruhiger haben wollte, ging entweder in die Außenbereiche der Hallen oder man ging in die EA Lounge, wo es für manche am ruhigsten war. Zu EA muss man sagen, dass ihnen nicht nur über die Hälfte einer normalen Halle gehörte, sondern sie auch die komplette Halle 1 für sich hatten.
Natürlich gingen wir auch weiter unseren Terminen nach, allerdings kam es in manchen Situationen auch zu Fehlkalkulationen. Denn ich hatte noch 20 Minuten Zeit bis mein nächster Termin begann, irgendwann verlor ich mich in den langsamen Hallen und ich begann zu rennen. Am Ende gelang ich noch gerade so pünktlich zu meinem Termin, zwar nassgeschwitzt und völlig fertig mit den Beinen, aber pünktlich.
Das Ende
Alles hat ein Ende, aber nicht nach der Messe! Nach der Messe bewegten wir unsere von Muskelkater bepackten Beine in Richtung Party. Sei es die Gamigo, die Trion oder Wargaming Party, bei der wir wohl alle den meisten Spaß hatten, inklusiver Metal Band namens Sabaton.
Doch um ehrlich zu sein, wir alle waren froh, als wir die Messe zum letzten Mal verlassen konnten ohne dabei zu bedenken, wie wir morgen dorthin kommen sollten mit unseren kaputten Beinen. Wir verließen also am Samstag die Messe zum letzten Mal. Traurigen Gewissens, die Leute für ein ganzes Jahr nicht mehr wieder zusehen, verabschiedete ich mich herzlichst von allen und bedankte mich auch bei vielen für diese tolle Messe.
