Es ist schon einige Zeit her, dass der große Hype um die VR-Brillen gestartet ist. Doch wie sieht es momentan aus? Ist für die VR-Brille noch ein Markt da oder wird sie bald verschwinden.
Der Beginn einer langen Geschichte
Betrachten wir doch zu erst einmal die Einführung der Brille. Wenn wir nun einmal zurückblicken wie alles begann, kann man feststellen das 1995 ein erster großer Schritt in diese Richtung von Nintendo kam. Hierbei handelt es sich um den „Virtual Boy“. Dieser war jedoch keine VR-Brille wie wir sie heute kenne, vielmehr war es eine überdimensionale 3D-Brille. Diese sah aber einer heutigen VR-Brille sehr ähnlich. Doch durch ihre Größe, das Gewicht und der Tatsache das die Auflösung auch zu der damaligen Zeit sehr schlecht war, wurde diese Brille sehr uninteressant. Durch die Kopfschmerzen und Übelkeit, die durch die schlechte Auflösung und dem geringen Abstand zu den Augen, auftraten war es schwierig die Konsole zu verkaufen und somit wurde Sie weltweit nur 140.000 mal verkauft. (1995-2001)
Danach ließ das Interesse an Brillen nach und man wandte sich wieder der Heimkonsole oder dem Handheld zu und arbeitete an Verbesserungen.
Das Wiederauferstehen der “Virtual Reality”
Doch dann kam das Jahr 2016 und die erstens Hersteller wagten sich an den Markt mit ihren VR-Brillen. Die Entwicklung der Brillen begann jedoch deutlich früher, zu diesem Zeitpunkt waren Sie doch noch nicht für die große Maße geeignet.
Im Jahr 2011 wurde ein erster Prototyp von Oculus VR in einer Garage in Kalifornien zusammengebaut. Mit dieser Brille wollte man auf die ersten Investoren zugehen, die eine weitere Forschung und Entwicklung finanzieren könnten.
2012 sah dann die Öffentlichkeit eine der ersten Versionen. Um die Entwicklung und Produktion zu starten, wurde eine Kickstarter-Kampagne gestartet. Jeder der 300$ oder mehr gab, bekam später eine Brille vor dem Release. Danach wurde sie für 300$ freiverkäuflich.
EinProblem der ersten Version war noch, dass die “Motion Sickness” bei sehr vielen Nutzern schnell und stark auftrat. Durch die weitere Entwicklung sollte dies verbessert werden um den Komfort für den Nutzer zu erhöhen und somit auch die Verkaufszahlen zu verbessern.
Wie ist der aktuelle Stand?
Die Anzahl der unterstützen Spiel stieg langsam an. Hauptsächlich Indientwickler haben Spiele für die Brille entwickelt, die großen Publisher kamen später erst dazu.
Nach dem Erscheinen der DK2 kam dann auch die Brille für den normalen Kunden auf den Markt. Diese erschien im April 2016.
In der Zeit nach der Bekanntgabe und dem Release, waren auch andere große Konzerne wie Sony, Steam/HTC und Microsoft auf die Idee gekommen etwas zum Thema VR auf den Markt zu bringen. Im Laufe des Jahres 2016 veröffentlichten die Konzerne ihre Brillen, nur Microsoft hat es bis heute nicht geschafft eine Brille für den Endverbraucher zu entwicklen.
Blicken wir also nun einmal auf die aktuelle Situation.Der Markt erreichte in 2016 bis Mitte 2017 seinen Höhepunkt. Jeder Entwickler und Publisher wollte sich an dem Markt beteiligen. Währen Anfangs noch die kleinen ihre Spiele veröffentlichten, kamen nach und nach auch die Großen dazu. Ende 2017 ging der “Hype” um die Brillen und die VR langsam zurück. Die VR-Brillen hatten allesamt ihre Probleme. Die Brillen für den PC, also die Oculus Rift und die HTC Vive, fordern viel von einem Computer, somit erweist sich die Anschaffung einer solchen Brille als sehr kostspielig, denn ein VR fähiger PC kostet zwischen 1000 und 1500€, dazu kommt dann noch die Brille für bis zu 500€.
Also 2000€ für ein solches Spielerlebnis?
Da hat es die PS-VR etwas besser, der Preis der Brille ist mit etwa 300€ geringer, auch die Anschaffung einer PS4 pro (welche empfolen wird um die optimale Leistung zu erzielen) und dem benötigen Zubehör,
kommt man zusammen an die 1000€-Marke. Doch hier kommt das Problem der Spiele zu tragen, es kommen nämlich zu wenig Titel auf den Markt, da es für kleine Entwickler deutlich schwerer ist ein Spiel für die PlayStation zu veröffentlichen.
Was wird die Zukunft bringen?
Der Markt um die VR-Brillen ist derzeit also sehr schwierig. Auch wenn weiterhin versucht wird den Markt um die Brillen aufrecht zu erhalten, geht der Trend zunehmend weg. Es kommen immer wieder kleine Aufschwünge, doch wirklich aufblühen will der Markt nicht. Wenn die Anzahl an Spielen nicht zunimmt, hat die Brille keine wirkliche Chance. Die meisten Spiele punkten durch atrative und experimentelle Ideen, jedoch durch die gegebennen Möglichkeiten nicht durch ihre Grafik.
Wir können also nur abwarten ob im Rahmen der E3 nächstes Jahr etwas neues angekündigt wird oder ob es bei dem aktuellen Standart bleibt. Gerade für die neue Konsolengeneration ist es sehr wahrscheinlich das mit neuen Möglichkeiten der Hardware auch die Möglichkeiten der Brillen verbessert und erweitert werden. Bleiben wir mal gespannt.
