The Shallows ist ein Horrorfilm aus den USA, der einen Hai, als Antagonisten und eine leicht bekleidete blonde Frau, als Protagonistin hat. Der Film lässt diese zwei aufeinander los, um zu sehen welcher von den beiden, nach 87 Minuten Lauflänge des Streifens überlebt. Am 25. August läuft der Film in den deutschen Kinos an und ich habe ihn vorab in einer Preview schon gesehen. Durch diese Preview werde ich euch erklären, warum ihr euch lieber das Geld für einen anderen Film sparen könnt.
Das Horror Genre bedient ein spezielles Monster, neben Freddy Krüger gibt es noch Jason Voorhees, Michael Myers und natürlich auch den weißen Hai. Dieser Hai ist bekanntlich 38 Meter groß und frisst gerne alles auf was sich bewegt und einen Pulsschlag hat, also völlig normal. Mitte der 70er allerdings begeisterte uns ein gewisser Mann namens Steven Spielberg mit dem gleichnamigen Film „Der weiße Hai“ und löste ein Angst vor Haien aus, die bis heute besteht. Und selbst heute werden Filme nach dem Vorbild von der weiße Hai gedreht und Produziert. „The Shallows“ jedoch hat weder etwas mit der Genialität seines Vorbildes zu tun, noch ist er ein guter Film.
Wie man aus dem Titel erkennen kann, geht es natürlich, um einen riesigen Hai. Wo es einen Hai gibt muss es auch ein Meer geben. Wo ein Meer ist, gibt es auch Wellen und wo wellen sind ist auch die junge Nancy (Blake Lively) zur Stelle. Denn sie ist Profi Surferin und liebt es an Orten zu surfen, wo kaum jemand anderes surft. Sie selber hat nach einem tragischen Ereignis nicht nur ihr Medizinstudium, sondern auch den Kontakt zu ihrer Familie abgebrochen und widmet sich nun völlig dem Surfen. Aus diesem Grund zieht es sie an einen Strand, wo kaum jemand surft, außer sie selbst. Und ab hier beginnt die eigentliche Handlung des Films und hört gleichzeitig auf, denn das Drehbuch des Films ist so dermaßen dünn, dass es mit dem vom Film „Victoria“ Konkurrenz machen könnte.
Vorneweg gesagt, es ist nicht alles katastrophal an diesem Film von Sony Pictures. Der Film hat in manchen Sequenzen tolle Bilder und man merkt, dass sich Regisseur Jaume Collet-Serra wirklich bemüht einen halbwegs guten Film abzuliefern. Dies gelingt ihm jedoch nur im ersten Drittel des Films, da er zu Beginn eine tolle Optik mit einer tollen Kamera einfangen kann und eben schöne Zeitlupeneffekt beim Surfen bietet. Ebenfalls zeigt der Film interessante CGI Face Time Effekte, welche zwar nett anzusehen sind, aber keinen größeren Effekt haben. Sogar das Make Up ist relativ ok, da Wunden und Splatter Effekte relativ gut aussehen.
Und das war’s. Außer diesen Punkten, also der Kamera, der Optik, Zeitlupeneffekte, ist dieser Film höchstens unterdurchschnittlich und unterwältigend. Denn die Handlung des Filmes ist selbst für 87 Minuten einfach zu lang. Denn es braucht gefühlt eine halbe Stunde bis sie auf den Hai trifft und landet dann auf einen Felsen, auf dem sie dann auf dem Rest des Filmes verbringt nur um dann auf einer Boje sich den Endkampf gegen den Hai zu liefern. Das führt zu riesiger Langeweile. Das CGI des Filmes sieht auch dermaßen Uncanny Valley aus, dass man jedes Mal aus dem Film rausgerissen wird, was ziemlich nervig ist.
Aber das immer noch größte Problem sind die Handlungslücken, da (Achtung Spoiler) plötzlich Menschen am Strand auftauchen und dann später nicht einmal am Ende des Filmes wieder erscheinen. Oder dass der Hai die GoPro eines Surfers so auffrisst, dass sie aufhört zu filmen und eigentlich zerstört sein müsste. Dennoch findet Nancy den Helm, übrigens unbeschädigt und ohne Kopf, schaut sich nicht nur die Videos an sondern macht dann selber ein Vlog artiges Video, was aus irgendeinem Grund, wie eine Skype Konferenz ausschaut. Über den Finalen Kampf will ich erst gar nicht anfangen zu reden.
Diese Momente führen zu unfreiwilliges Gelächter, dies wäre nicht so schlimm, wenn der Film sich selbst nicht so ernst nehmen würde. Als Beispiel funktioniert Sharknado einfach, weil er so dermaßen schlecht ist, dass er als Komödien tatsächlich funktioniert. Selbst die Schauspieler wissen, wie Mies der Film ist, aber ziehen es selber so gut auf, dass Sharknado, als Hommage auf das Genre wirklich funktioniert. The Shallows aber versucht ein ernster Horror Film zu sein und versteht sich, als eine Art Der weiße Hai, erreicht aber maximal das Niveau eines Deep Blue Sea wenn es hochkommt. Dazu kommt noch, dass sich die Kamera ständig im Kreis dreht, um die Einsamkeit des Meeres zu zeigen, wovon mir sogar teilweise schlecht wurde im Kino. Ebenso konnte Regisseur Collet-Serra wohl nicht genug von Lively’s Körper bekommen, die immer leicht bekleidet und mit den Brüsten im Vordergrund gefilmt wurde.
Unterm stricht haben wir einen Film, der zwar eine gute Kameraauflösung, Optik und Zeitlupeneffekte hat, aber in allen anderen Punkten klar und deutlich versagt. Ich ging am Ende gelangweilt und mit schlechter Laune aus dem Kino und das zurecht, denn The Shallows ist im Grunde ein Witz für alle Horror Fans, die sich in irgendeiner Weise etwas Interessantes und Neues ansehen wollen. Selbst wenn ihr mit geringen Erwartungen euch diesen Film anschauen wollt, werdet ihr enttäuscht, denn der Film ist einfach viel zu ernst für Trash und einfach zu trashig für einen ernsten Horror Film.
