Bei der Ankündigung des neuen Star Wars Battlefront 2 (2017) erlebte man Vorfreude und Ernüchterung zugleich. Die einen freuen sich, dass das neue Star Wars Battlefront 2 dem Original am nächsten herankommt. Die anderen sind enttäuscht, dass es wiedermal nicht eine Grafische Kopie des Originals ist. Doch warum wird Battlefront 2 so verehrt? Und ist diese Verehrung für ein nun fast über 12 Jahre altes Spiel gerechtfertigt?
Die alte Zeit
Es ist für mich immer wieder ein Nostalgieflash, wenn ich Star Wars Battlefront 2 (2005) starte und das Logo von LucasArts und Pandamic Studios erscheint. Es erinnert mich an meine frühe Kindheit, als noch die Straßen von San Andreas unsicher gemacht wurden, Autos noch richtig im Underground getuned wurden und Shooter ohne Perks und Online Multiplayer daherkamen. Die Rede ist von der Epoche der Playstation 2 Ära.
Im Jahr 2004 erschien das erste Star Wars Battlefront und brachte meinen damals noch sehr jungen Kopf zum Explodieren. Ihr müsst euch vorstellen, ich hatte nie einen Battlefield gespielt, weil ich zu diesem Zeitpunkt keinen PC hatte, sondern immer nur eine Konsole. Weswegen ich dann auch nur in den Genuss von Battlefront kam. Ich denke ein Großteil der heutigen Battlefront Community teilt mein Schicksal, weswegen viele Fans nicht von einem Battlefield Moment sprechen, wenn es in einer Schlacht gerade zu einem Grabenkrieg mit unendlichen Granaten kommt, sondern eben von einem Battlefront Moment.
In Battlefront 1 könnt ihr die unterschiedlichsten Schlachten erleben, wie z.B. die Schlacht von Naboo.
Natürlich hatte sich Battlefront stark von Battlefield inspirieren lassen, doch ist dies nun schlecht? Tatsächlich hatte Pandamic für diese Marke sich die richtige Inspirationsquelle ausgesucht. Denn das Star Wars Universum und das Gameplay von Battlefield passten wie die Faust aufs Auge zusammen.
Was war dran fantastisch?
Nun ja du konntest zum ersten Mal Teil einer Schlacht im Star Wars Universum sein, zum ersten Mal in die bekannten Fahrzeuge des Star Wars Universums einsteigen und zum ersten Mal war nicht nur der galaktische Bürgerkrieg ein Kriegsschauplatz, sondern auch die Klonkriege kamen zum ersten Mal zum Vorschein. Man konnte sogar mit (fast) unzerstörbaren Helden das Schlachtfeld betreten und sie ganze Arbeit machen lassen. Es gab sogar damals schon den berühmten Galaxie-Modus, wo man Planet um Planet gekämpft hat.
Die Krone setzte all dem noch der Originale Soundtrack von John Williams auf, denn nichts ist besser, als wenn ihr inmitten einer Schlacht seid und plötzlich die Perfekte Melodie ertönt. Ich meine was wäre die Order 66 ohne ihr markantes Theme?
Allerdings muss man auch ehrlich zugeben, dass das erste Battlefront heute nur schwer genießbar geworden ist. Die Tastenbelegung ist Beispielsweise eine völlig andere, als gewohnt, man kann nicht sprinten, wer mit den X-Wings und TIE Fightern spielt, langweilt sich zu Tode und noch vieles mehr. Selbst der Galaxie-Modus wirkt heutzutage etwas abgespeckt und es gibt noch nicht mal einen richtigen Story-Modus. Vor jedem Level gibt es eine Art Vorbesprechung, wo es heißt: „Gewinne, indem du alle tötest oder alle Kommandoposten eroberst“ und das macht ihr bei jedem Planeten. Abwechslung ist hierbei nur mit einer Lupe sichtbar.
Battlefront 2 hat alles verändert!
Und nun kommen wir zum zweiten Teil der Battlefront Saga. Battlefront 2 kam tatsächlich nur ein Jahr später, als der Vorgänger und machte so vieles besser. Ihr konntet nun endlich sprinten, die Tastenbelegung war eine bessere und die Grafik wurde etwas mehr aufpoliert. Legendär ist bis heute der Helden Modus auf Tatooine oder der Jäger Modus, wo man sogar als Wampa gegen Rebellen kämpfen konnte.
Selbst Gameplay technisch machte man große Fortschritte. Ihr hattet nun eine Art Story, wo ihr die Geschehnisse eines Klons, vom Beginn der Klonkriege auf Geonosis bis zum Ende des galaktischen Bürgerkriegs auf Hoth begleitet. Die Story selbst gab faszinierende Einblicke auf die Welt der Klone und wie sie früher dachten. Gerade die Missionen während der Order 66 waren für damalige Verhältnisse äußerst Lehrreich, allerding ist heute nichts mehr davon Kanon.
Innerhalb der Missionen gab es sogar Ziele außerhalb des Eroberns und des Tötens. Man musste nun Ziele erledigen, da der Feind nun unendlich großes Truppenkontingent und ihr nur eine begrenzte Anzahl an Männern habt. Somit war jede Mission immer etwas anders. Manchmal musstet ihr Capture the Flag für eine Sekunde spielen, plötzlich müsst ihr dann den Kommandoposten verteidigen, aber das Beste war jedes Mal, wenn ihr einen Helden selber spielen konntet und somit selber mit dem Laserschwert schwingen durftet.
Battlefront 2 hatte ein noch besseres Schlachtgefühl, als der Erstling und ist der Teil mit den meisten Innovationen.
Tatsächlich muss man sagen, dass der Singleplayer bis heute motiviert und kein Stück von seiner Faszination eingebüßt hat. Und war die Story mal vorbei, so konntet ihr euch in den Galaxie-Modus stürzen. Denn dieser wurde tatsächlich auch überarbeitet und bietet nun deutlich mehr taktische Tiefe, als der Vorgänger. Insbesondere, weil man das ganze Spiel sogar im Coop gegen- oder miteinander spielen konnte.
Fazit
All diese Sachen und Erweiterungen haben Battlefront 2 nicht nur zu einem besseren Spiel gemacht, sondern es wurde ein Klassiker. Dieses Spiel kann man meiner Meinung nach ruhigen Gewissens heute noch spielen. Und wer die Möglichkeit hat, sollte dieses Spiel auf der nächsten Lan-Party spielen oder zumindest ausprobieren. Meines Erachtens ist der Hype für dieses 12 Jahre alte Spiel durchaus berechtigt! Ich würde mir nur noch einen würdevollen Nachfolger wünschen. Bis dahin schwärme ich weiter für dieses Spiel.
