Es gehört bekanntermaßen zu dem Ereignis des Jahres. Die Rede ist nicht von Weihnachten, Silvester oder eurem Geburtstag, sondern vom neuen STAR WARS Film der in die Kinos kommt! Aber noch nie zuvor gab es bei einem neuen Star Wars Film eine so geteilte Meinung. Die Rede ist von Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Die große Frage, die sich alle stellen, ist, ob eine STAR WARS Geschichte in nur einem Film zusammengefasst werden kann. Ist es überhaupt noch ein richtiger Star Wars Film, wenn so viel Altbekanntes fehlt? Ich habe mir den Film angeschaut und sage euch meine Meinung zu Rogue One.
Zu aller erst sollte gesagt sein, dass ich mich so sehr auf den Film gefreut habe. Deshalb habe ich mir nicht ein Bild und auch keinen einzigen Trailer zu Rogue One angeschaut. Bei Star Wars verstehe ich sowieso keinen Spaß und möchte den Film völlig blind und ohne jegliche Erwartung anschauen. Ich bin überzeugt, dass das Filmerlebnis dadurch deutlich besser und auch magischer wird. Diese Methode habe ich schon bei Episode 7 angewendet. Ich merkte deutlich wie viel besser mein Filmerlebnis durch diese recht konservative Maßnahme wurde. Ich war also mit zwei Freunden in der Mitternachtspreview. So konnten wir jegliche Spoiler an den folgenden Tagen vermeiden. Somit die beste Voraussetzung, um mal wieder Star Wars zu sehen.
Dann ging es los und viele Zuschauer im Kino wunderte sich, warum kein altbekanntes Star Wars Intro eingespielt wurde. Die belesenen wussten schon, dass das Intro in Rogue One fehlen würde und damit wären wir schon beim wichtigsten Punkt dieses Filmes. Ihr müsst euch klar machen, dass dieser Film kein typischer Star Wars Film ist. Es ist ein völlig eigenständiger Film, welcher im Star Wars Universum spielt und Tabus bricht. Ein Film, der sich wagemutig einer Community stellt, welche schon Star Wars 7 aufs heftigste kritisierte. Aber funktioniert ein STAR WARS Film überhaupt noch, wenn man solche Tabus bricht? Und wie er funktioniert! Ehrlich gesagt ist dies auch der Reiz an Rogue One. Statt einer Geschichte um Luke (Mark Hamill), Anakin (Hayden Christensen) oder irgendeinen anderen Jedi, geht es um Jyn (Felicity Jones), ihre Geschichte und wie sie die Pläne des Todessterns beschaffen muss.
Somit sind wir endlich bei der Handlung angelangt und hierbei sollte gesagt werden, Rogue One ist wohl eine der düstersten Geschichten, die jemals in einem Star Wars Film gezeigt wurde. Die Story ist so düster, dass sie Episoden 3 und 5 locker das Wasser reichen könnte und das heißt schon mal was. Wir bekommen nämlich einen Einblick in das Leben von Jyn Erso’s und die vom Imperium gespaltene Welt in der sie lebt. Ihr Vater Galen Erso (Mads Mikkelsen) ist ein hoch angesehener Baumeister. Doch kaum wollte er mit dem Imperium nichts mehr zu tun haben, kommt der Imperiale Offizier Orson Krennic (Ben Mendelsohn) und verschleppt Galen, als Jyn noch ein Kind war. Es vergehen Jahre, bis Galen die Pläne des Todessterns und ein Hologramm einem Piloten gibt, damit er diese Saw Gerrera (Forest Whitaker) überreichen kann. Doch auch die Rebellion erkennt den Nutzen von Jyn und nötigt sie, diese Pläne der Allianz zu überreichen. So weit, so klassisch. Aber es sind die kleineren Szenen, die Rogue One zum Brillieren bringen. Beispielsweise wird zum ersten Mal in der Star Wars Geschichte die Rebellen-Allianz nicht als glanzvoller Held gezeigt. Diesen ist nämlich jedes Mittel Recht, um dem Imperium zu schaden. Klar nach dem Motto der Zweck heiligt die Mittel.
Aber auch Jyn ist keine Heldin aus dem Bilderbuch, im Gegenteil, sie ist mehr ein Antiheld, welcher nur aus einem einzigen Motiv handelt. Anfangs möchte sie gar nichts mit den Rebellen zu tun haben, dennoch erklärt sie sich bereit ihnen zu helfen, damit sie endlich von ihnen in Ruhe gelassen wird. Bei Saw sieht Jyn das Hologramm ihres Vaters und will von da an nur noch ihren Vater retten. Dieser wird allerdings auf Eadu getötet, weswegen Jyn nur noch nach Rache strebt!
Rache gegen das Imperium. Sie will die Pläne des Todessterns unbedingt klauen, damit die Rebellen diese neue Sternenbasis vernichten können.
Hinzu kommt noch, dass der Regisseur Gareth Edwards (GODZILLA) eine so tolle Truppe zusammengestellt hat welche aus den unterschiedlichsten Gestalten besteht. Diese erinnert schon fast an Guardians of the Galaxy. An der einen Stelle der etwas ängstlich und verwirrte Bodhi Rook (Riz Ahmed), welcher der besagte Pilot ist. Dann der den blinden und mit der Macht vertrauten Chirrut imwe (Donnie Yen), sein Sidekick Baze Malbus (Jiang Wen), welcher einem Tank gleicht und schließlich noch der Draufgänger Cassion Andor (Diego Luna). Aber alle sind nichts im Vergleich zum Droiden K2SO, welcher der Star des Films ist. Er lockert die düstere Handlung immer wieder durch seine süße und Lustige Art auf. Gerade wenn K2SO auf Jyn trifft könnte man fast meinen, man wäre in einem „Buddy Cop Movie“ gelandet, ala Lethal Weapon. Aber was das Wichtigste ist: All diese Charaktere finden sich und agieren dann später auch zusammen als Team. Denn nicht nur Jyn hat am Ende alles verloren, sondern auch ihre Gefährten sind alle abgebrannte Typen. Diese Truppe hat nichts mehr zu verlieren und ist deswegen bereit, sich in dieses Selbstmordkommando auf Scarif zu stürzen.
Ein weiterer Pluspunkt sind die Effekte, die nun endgültig im Jahr 2016 angekommen sind. Dies sieht man vor allem in der zweiten Hälfte, als dann die Schlacht von Scarif beginnt. Diese Schlacht löste bei mir ein Gefühl aus was ich das letzte Mal in Episode 2, beim Angriff der Klonkrieger, spürte. Man erkennt deutlich, wie man das Genre des Kriegsfilms nicht nur bei den Charakteren großgeschrieben hat (Stichwort: Jyn’s Monolog an die Männer von Cassion, vor der Schlacht von Scarif), sondern auch die Effekte deutlich klar machen, wie ernst die Lage ist und auch die Rebellen-Allianz in der Lage ist, große Schlachten und Kriege zu führen. Doch nicht nur die Schlachten sind ein Augenschmaus, sondern auch das CGI an manch verstorbenen Charakter sieht gestochen echt aus. Am besten erkennt man dies an Wilhuff Tarkin. Hier könnte man glauben Peter Crushing sei für diesen Film extra wiederbelebt worden. Auch am Ende, als die Leinwand kurz Leia zeigt, war der ganze Saal erstaunt und jeder dachte für einen kurzen Augenblick Carrie Fisher wäre nicht gealtert.
Allumfassend gesagt: Was Gerath Edwards in 134 Minuten verpackt, ist wirklich gigantisch und grenzt an einen nahezu perfekten Film, aber eben nur nahezu. Denn die erste Hälfte erzählt sich nur schleppend und man merkt es deutlich. Allerdings ist dies mein einziger Kritikpunkt, denn die zweite Hälfte ist so brachial und so fantastisch, dass das Ende wohl mit Abstand das Beste am Film war. Denn es ist einzigartig wie Gerath Edwards einen nahezu perfekten Übergang zu Episode 4 schafft. Dies löst viele Fragen des Star Wars Universums. Der Film füllt die Lücke zwischen Episode 3 und 4 perfekt.
Nun bleibt nach all dem Lob dennoch eine Frage offen: Ist Rogue One nun der beste Star Wars Film aller Zeiten? Eine Frage die ich nicht verstehen kann. Nochmals muss man sagen, dass Rogue One ein eigenständiger Film ist und mit Star Wars und all dem Hype wenig zu tun haben möchte. Somit sollte man diese auch unterschiedlich bewerten. Meines Erachtens versucht man hier Äpfel mit Birnen zu vergleichen. Es klingt banal: Zwar ähneln sich beide sehr, sind aber dennoch im Kern zwei völlige unterschiedliche Sachen.
8.5/10 Punkten – Prädikat: Ein Film der Tabus bricht. Der ein düsterer (Anti)Kriegsfilm ist, besser hätte Rogue One echt nicht werden können. Neben Deadpool und Arrival ist er definitiv einer meiner Lieblingsfilme 2016.
