Am 11. Mai startete in den Kinos ein sehr interessanter Film der es in sich hat. Die Rede ist von King Arthur: The Legend of the Sword von Regisseure Guy Ritchie. Mit diesem Setting begibt sich Guy Ritchie zum erstmal mit einem seiner Filme in die Welt des Mittelalters und bedient sich einer der ältesten Sagen der Englischen Historie, verfilmt in seinem eigenen nicht ganz unstrittigen Stil. Dies macht den Film, trotz bekannter Handlung zu einem echten Erlebnis.
Arthur, gespielt von Charlie Hunnam, wächst in einem Bordell im mittelalterlichen Londinium auf. Dort lernt er schon als kleiner Junge wie man sich auf der Straße durchzusetzen hat.
Während er aufwächst Herrscht König Vortigern, nach dem Mord an seinem Bruder Uther Pendragon, über das Land. Vortigern ist ein brutaler Egomane, der es liebt von den Menschen gefürchtet zu werden. Die einzige Angst Vortigerns besteht darin, dass eines Tages der Sohn von Uther Pendragon und somit der rechtmäßige Erbe des Throns, zurückkehrt um ihm die Krone streitig zu machen.
Dieser rechtmäßige Sohn findet sich in der Rolle von Arthur wieder.
Zuerst weiß Arthur gar nichts von seiner Herkunft und lebt sein Leben in Londinium als gutmütiger Besitzer des dortigen Bordells. Als Arthur jedoch gezwungen wird, den Versuch zu unternehmen ein Schwert aus einem Stein zu ziehen und sich damit herausstellt, dass Arthur der rechtmäßige Erbe ist, verändert sich sein Leben von Grund auf.
Der Film ist in typischer Guy Ritchie Manier verfilmt. Das bedeutet häufige Perspektivwechsel, viele Schnitte und ein schnelles Tempo. Ergebnis: Wer Guy Ritchie Filme wie „Bube, Dame, König, grAS“ mochte, der wird auch King Arthur mögen, denn in der besonderen Art der Verfilmung und Kameraführung liegt auch eine große Stärke des Filmes. Die Handlung im Film wird in vielen verschiedenen Szenen durch diese Mittel unterstützt und einige Momente und Gefühle erzielt der Film auch nur durch diese stilistischen Mittel.
Jedoch ist dieser besondere Stil auch gleichzeitig eines der größten Schwächen des Films. Durch das rasante Tempo des Films können die Zuschauer sich nicht direkt in den Film gleiten lassen. Man kann nicht in den Film eintauchen sondern wird erst einmal von Szene zu Szene gehetzt.
Dieser Effekt wird jedoch durch den Humor und die Action im Film auf jeden Fall wettgemacht.
Es macht mir riesigen Spaß den Trailer zu gucken und das genau wegen der eigenen Machart von Guy Ritchie.
Leider wird dem Film die Spannung dadurch genommen, dass die Story weithin bekannt ist. Die Rahmenhandlung ist gegeben und es besteht vom Zuschauer auch die Erwartung, dass gewisse Elemente auftauchen. Mich überraschte, dass ein (meiner Meinung nach) essenziel Teil der Arthur-Saga nicht im Film erschien.
Der Film macht dies aber durch die restliche Handlung wieder wett. Der Humor, die Action und die exzellente Schauspielkunst lenken von diesem Malus sehr wohl ab.
Charlie Hunnam verkörpert in seiner Rolle als Arthur den perfekten Typen für einen Helden. Er ist ein Beschützer für die Frauen seines Bordells und selbst als Bandenchef behandelt er die Händler in seinem Bezirk sehr freundlich. Er spielt den traurigen Helden, der langsam sein Schicksal akzeptieren muss und das Geheimnis seines Lebens lüftet.
Die restliche Besetzung ist durchzogen von bekannten Schauspielern aus z.B. Game of Thrones, die hier viele Erfahrungen, auch bezüglich des Genres, mitbringen.
Mir hat der Film unfassbar viel Spaß gemacht. Guy Ritchie überzeugt durch seine Machart die er seit Jahren nicht verändert hat und auch Charlie Hunnam überzeugt als King Arthur.
Der Film kann zwar nicht mit einer überraschenden Story überzeugen, dafür aber mit dem Paket in dem die Story verpackt ist.
Ich habe mir ihn sofort als DVD vorbestellt und rate das auch allen, die den Film nicht in den Kinos sehen konnten. Er ist es wert!
